Revelate Designs Frame Bags include some of the most diverse designs & sizing options in the bikepacking bag game.
The reason we continues to stock these bags at Abbotsford Cycles after something like 8 years now is how many bike’s they work for!
Not only that, the quality of the materials that go in to these bags, and the thoughtful designs are impressive.
We consider Revelate Frame Bags to be a premium quality product. And you should too! Because their quality construction & multi-pocket, multi-zip design makes them better quality than their competitors.
Revelate’s zip’s are actually a crowd favourite. Their ease of use while cycling is exactly what you need on a long ride. Stopping to access your gear from your frame bag is for suckers! Simply reach down & pull the zip open with their handy over-sized pulls.
Choosing the right frame bag for the right bike is tricky. So let’s break it down.
Frame bags for Gravel Bikes
If you are like so many of us & bikepack on a gravel bike, Revelate now make options specifically for you.
Gravel bike’s tend to have a reduced main triangle & lots of seat-post. Making them great if you will be running a saddle bag, but more difficult if you want to keep your bottle cages.
For a half-frame bag that will allow you to keep your bottles, there’s the Sandur.
If you are looking for a full-frame version because you have other solutions for your water, there’s the Rifter.
Frame bags for steel-frame ‘touring’ bikes or titanium gravel bikes
If you will be taking your Surly, Soma, Salsa steel frame on a bikepacking trip, you have options! These options will also work for titanium gravel bikes from Curve or Auren.
For a half-frame bag you have the Tangle.
For a full-frame bag you have the Ripio.
Frame bags for hard-tail mountain bikes
These can be very similar in geometry to a gravel bike as there’s more crossover in these two types of bike than ever.
For a half-frame bag that will generally fit a small triangle or allow you to run your bottles, there’s the Choss.
The full-frame bag options for a hardtail are the Ranger & the Rifter.
Frame bags for dual suspension mountain bikes
Now finding a frame bag for your dually is just about the hardest thing to do in bikepacking.
The main triangle is small, and has a suspension moving inside it. And depending on where your linkage points are, the small triangle get smaller!
So here your option for a horizontally mounted rear shock is the Choss which is a half-size frame bag.
This has replaced the original Dual Suspension bag from Revelate.
Now if you will be fitting your frame bag to a vertically mounted rear shock, there is the Hopper.
Introducing the new full-frame bag from Revelate, the Rifter
Revelate are the innovators in the bikepacking bag world. And they have just brought out another frame bag to add to their collection.
The Rifter frame bag reflects the current state of the world with bikepacking. Namely, that everyone has a carbon gravel bike! These new frame bags are an optimised fit for the carbon gravel bike’s that have become ubiquitous since 2021.
What do we mean by optimised fit? This is just a fancy way of saying the bag has been designed around this type of bike. The type of bike that has quite thick tubes, a reduced size triangle & a slanting top tube. This reduced triangle with acres of seatpost is great for bikepacking. But has been traditionally tricky to find a frame bag for. This is no longer the case since the introduction of the Rifter.
The Rifter has a flared front end to maximise capacity in the top tube & head tube connection point. It’s also been made from stretchier material than is usually the case in Revelate frame bags. This stretch allows you to really jam a lot of gear inside & over-stuff the bag. Speaking of the material we also like the inclusion of recycled fabrics. The matt finish of the bag is an especially good match for the latest matt finish carbon gravel bikes.
And if you were already familiar with Revelate’s frame bag collection, the Rifter is the same capacity as the Ranger frame bags, size for size. Which you would not guess form looking at them online!
Revelate Designs have done a lot of the thinking for you when it comes to bikepacking gear. Their thoughtfully designed systems suit a wide range of bikes & ride requirements. Whether you are gravel racing & only need space for your snacks, bivvy and power bank or are planning a 12 trek with a full kit stove and tent on your bike, Revelate will have the bags for you.
It helps to break down your trip into the things you need to carry. If you are planning to stay a few nights, and need to carry enough water to tide you over between camp sites, or need to carry cooking water with you too, then you need to be thinking about your frame bag.
Revelate make frame bags that fill your full triangle like the Ripio (suits gravel bikes) or Ranger (suits mountain bikes) so you can carry a hydration bladder inside the frame bag and run a hose up to your handlebars for easy access.
The Tangle & the Hopper are half frame bags that won’t take the entire triangle, so that you can still use the water bottle cages in your frame, if you have them. This is often the better choice for gravel races or rides where you aren’t carrying too much to begin with.
