Recommendations for chain lube are probably the most common requests we get. And it can be exceptionally hard to choose the best lube from so many options.
We stock the famous Boeshield T.9 Lube which is a highly reliable, long lasting chain lube for your bike. As well as the highly regarded Muc-Off brand of wet & dry lubes which are race-quality at a great price. We also stock Rock’n’Roll chain lube in Absolute Dry & the famous Gold for all conditions. And then finally a classic of the Abbotsford Cycles workshop, we have Phil Wood Bio Lube. Which is not only a high quality chain lube but is also the Sram recommended lubricant for servicing Zipp wheel hubs.
Muc-Off are our preferred brand for bike cleaning & degreasing products. We use Muc-Off premium lubricants on bikes which come in for servicing in our workshop. And we highly recommend their products for complete at-home bike maintenance. Muc-Off make bike cleaning products, the tools and equipment you need to clean your drivetrain and parts. As well as the lubricants and greases you would need to apply after you have cleaned your bike.
What’s the best chain lube to use?
Lubricating your chain is about assessing the conditions you are primarily riding in. If you ride in all weathers, through the puddles & enjoy the rain then a ‘wet’ lube or an all conditions lube is for you. Such as Muc-Off Wet Lube or Muc-Off Hydrodynamic Lube. If you are riding your bike in the gravel, on the trails or only bringing out your good bike when the weather is on your side, then a ‘dry’ lube will work for you. How often should you lube your chain?
Regularly lubricating your chain is key to keeping your bike running smoothly & safely! If you can hear your chain while you are riding, its time for some lube. If you find that changing gears when you are riding is slow & noisy, it’s time to lube your chain! In fact, if it’s been a few weeks, it’s time to lube your chain. It’s about as important as keeping air in your tyres, and it will save you money on replacing chains & drivetrain components every year.
