Apidura’s latest & greatest in the frame bag collection is the Racing series. These bags are ultra-optimised for gravel bikes. And good thing to, just about everybody out there bikepacking is riding a gravel bike!
Since the huge influx of interest in bikepacking post-2020 Apidura have doubled down on their bag options for these bikes. Making their frame bags specifically for gravel bikes has been a leading innovation.
Unlike their competitors, Apidura are resolute in having absolutely waterproof bags. Including the zippers! And this has been taken a step further with the Apidura Racing Frame Pack. This pack has a little ‘lid’ or lip covering the zip to shed water. This is a great addition for those riding in the rain. Because it’s all well & good to have a waterproof zip, but opening while it’s raining saturates your gear!

And if you are wanting to take your bike on longer rides but keep your water bottles in your main triangle, you can. The reduced depth of this frame bag means that even in the 4L capacity, you can still fit 2 water bottles in your frame.

Why a good fit is important when it comes to bikepacking bags
You will often read about the fit of frame packs in your research of which bag to buy. This is because it’s simply the most important thing in buying this kind of bag. Where in saddle bags and handlebar bags you can go overboard & get the biggest bag and not use the complete thing, with frame bags it’s different. Frame packs will only serve you well if they are a solid fit in your bikes triangle. This is because an ill-fitting bag will bunch & bulge & slip & slide and can interfere with your knees, your thighs & you chainring & crank. In order for your frame bag to work well as a frame bag, it has to be a great fit.
The right frame bag is a small frame bag!
A lot of the time this means sizing down. We always recommend – strongly! – to size down on your frame bag if you are in-between sizes. Even if you think your set up has some tolerance and you aren’t worried about rubbing occurring on your bag, you need to be mindful of the likelihood that your gear will move & settle differently within the bag over the course of your ride. This may mean things fit differently after 6 hours on the bike, or 6 days on the bike, and any rubbing of the bag on your frame can not only damage the bag pretty quickly it can also damage your bike or drivetrain, and any gear you are carrying in your bag!
