We cannot overstate the importance of having good brake pads on your bike.
As a bicycle repair shop that replaces pads on bike’s all day every day, we know brakes. And because of the technical & messy nature of replacing pads, we see a lot of worn ones.
If you are considering replacing your pads, we have selected only the best brand in the business of braking – Kool Stop. While you may have Shimano or Sram brakes, you will find there is a Kool Stop pad to suit them.
You will find it is very common to replace your stock pads with an alternative brand. While it may seem like you need to use Shimano pads with Shimano brakes, this isn’t necessary. Kool Stop are a brand that specialise in brake pads. Meaning this is all that they do, and their pads will often work better than stock pads.
What about Disc Brakes?
While we don’t stock Disc pads on our website anymore, we do still have them in store!

This site includes stock that isn’t in our Richmond shop – because there’s just so much of it. But we can bring the pads in to our Richmond shop for you, simply choose Click & Collect when you place your order.
Trying to figure out which pads you need can be daunting, but it helps to be armed with info. You will need to know the brake caliper type you have. If you have a modern bike you will often be able to see the brake type printed on the caliper or lever. Or you will be able to look up the specifications for your bike online. This will help you narrow down the search, or find the exact pad you need. Then you will be able to consider things like the pad material and qualities. Things like sintered pads are good for high demand braking like on a mountain bike or ebike for instance.
