Project Flock are a Melbourne brand with the latest tech in bike safety – namely a biomotion rear bike light.
The Flock Light, a ground breaking rear bicycle light designed to significantly enhance cyclist visibility and safety on the road. After winning the prestigious Australian James Dyson Award in 2020 for its innovative design, and following a highly successful Kickstarter campaign in 2022,
The Flock Light is now available for purchase online & in our Richmond bicycle repair shop!
Invented by Tim Ottaway while completing his Industrial Design degree at RMIT, The Flock Light sets itself apart by lighting up your legs at night while you ride. Making you more visible.
This innovation allows cyclists to be seen up to 5.5 times sooner than with standard lights. Making cyclists recognisable as humans, not just flashing points.
“By highlighting human movement, we engage the brain’s innate ability to recognise and react to human activity, fundamentally changing how cyclists are perceived in traffic.”
The Flock Light boasts a range of features designed for usability and effectiveness:
4 lighting modes to suit various lighting conditions.
Marie Penny, co-founder at Project Flock, emphasises the broader mission of the
company. “We consider ourselves not just as a bicycle lighting company but a human lighting company. Our aim is to foster a harmonious relationship between all road users, reducing injuries and saving lives.”
The Flock Light is a testament to the resilience and innovation of the hardware start-up scene. Despite facing COVID lockdowns and significant manufacturing challenges, the team adapted by incorporating hybrid and local manufacturing techniques.
