For the serious touring set up, or for the gravel riding enthusiast who appreciates a stabilised front end, Ortlieb Front Panniers are it.
Front panniers are generally smaller & of a lower profile than rear panniers. This is to avoid interfering with your toe or pedal when you ride your bike. And it also ensures you can safely turn the handlebars without striking your bag.
The optimised shape of the front pannier means that you cannot carry as much gear, but you can still fit 12.5L per bag! This is comparison to 20L per bag in rear panniers.
The range of front panniers from Ortlieb include roll-down closure systems & lid closure systems. Both styles are equally durable & equally waterproof. It’s a matter of preference whether the roll-top Sport Roller style is what you wish to go for, or the Bike-Packer lid closure.
Front panniers from Ortlieb generally use the QL2.1 mounting system. The ever popular Sport-Roller uses the QL2.1 mounting system.
Ortlieb Sport-Rollers come with what is called a Quick Lock system. This system allows you to simply drop the hooks on to the pannier rails of your rack using the handle. Lifting the bag by the handle releases the lock & once you let go of the handle the lock engages. There is also an anchoring hook on the lower part of the pannier to lock in to your rack stays.
Ortlieb’s Quick Lock system is an often copied design for how simply & effective it is – and incredible secure. Ortlieb panniers simply will not fall of your bike, no matter how many rocks & roots you hit or gutters you jump!
This is especially important when it comes to Ortlieb’s Gravel-Pack which is their off-roading pannier set. These are designed to be mounted on a low rider, so bear the brunt of all the hits on the trail! Nevertheless your gravel pannier set will not let you down, you can load them up and trust they will be secure. We absolutely recommend Ortlieb panniers for reliability.
