The Wolf Tooth Valais is a dropper post bag adapter designed to protect your dropper post when carrying a saddle bag.
Like all things Wolf Tooth Components, this is a high quality addition to your bike. And is definitely worth considering if you go on a few long-haul bikepacking trips in a year. Because it is much more expensive to replace your dropper post than it is to fit a Valais!
While bikepacking saddle bags will often have rubberized straps where they mount to your seat post, it isn’t great for your dropper. Your dropper seat post is just like a suspension fork stanchion, in that it is a surface you shouldn’t be touching too much. Stanchions need to be smooth in order to glide through their travel. And any change to the surface can disrupt the seal that is inside your dropper post. Making it more likely for the oils inside the dropper to leak and corrode the dropper. Basically it’s just a good idea to protect your dropper with a Wolf Tooth Valais!
Even a rubberized saddle bag strap can have some friction and movement if you are riding over rough terrain. This friction will eventually wear on the surface of your dropper post – a big no-no!
But the additional protection of this Dropper Post adapter is that it limits your dropper travel when you use it. So you won’t be crashing down into the strap of your seat bag when you are running one.
