Check out the range of Ortlieb Handlebar Mounting-Sets available for your handlebar-bag.
Ortlieb’s handlebar bags are sold without the mounting sets, and this is to account for all the differences in handlebars out there!
And of course, because Ortlieb know that different people have different requirements for their bikes.
So you will find on this page the different options that will work with Ortlieb’s range of waterproof handlebar bags.
Ortlieb’s Handlebar Mounting-Sets & their types
The range includes the standard mounting-set and one that is specific to e-bikes. The difference between the standard mounting-set and the e-bike is the distance the mount will project from your bars. This longer projection or distance from your bars is to allow for an e-bike head unit. E-bikes generally have a head unit fitted to the bars which will show you your battery amount, assist levels & cadence. This mount is integral to your ebike so you won’t want to move it from your bars to fit a bike bag. Ortlieb have made their ebike handlebar mounting-set to allow you to keep you head unit in place.
Then Ortlieb offer these 2 mounting sets in a lockable version. Now the lock will fix the handlebar bag to your bike’s bars. It won’t lock the bag itself, which is an important note. Your belongings inside your bag are not safe when locked with the mounting-set. However your entire bag cannot be easily stolen from your bike! And it would be a real shame to return to your bike to find your handlebar bag stolen!
How does the Quick Release mounting set work?
The newest mounting set offered by Ortlieb is the Quick Release version which is also known as a ‘Bar Lock’ system. Now this QR mounting-set works the same way functionally as the standard mount. In that it wraps around the stem in order to cantilever the weight of your bar bag. However unlike the standard mount which uses a cable, this one uses cords which can be ‘undone’ and removed from your bars.
This means that the QR version is easily removable. Much as you can remove the standard mounting set, it uses a cable which would need to be cut to be removed. In this way the standard mount is as permanent as you want it to be. But if you were wanting to move it to another bike you would need to cut the cable & buy a new cable. A new cable is easily purchased, we stock these as a spare part from Ortlieb here.
