If you’re looking for a 29″ rim for a new wheelset, you can’t go past DT Swiss. We stock a wide range of their rims for building up wheels in our bicycle repair shop.
The reason we have so many DT Swiss 29″ rims is their high quality & great price point. Upgrading to a hand built wheelset is expensive enough without adding in pricier rims.
DT Swiss make excellent quality rims & paired with a good hub, quality spokes & a good tyre you will have an excellent wheel. We encourage you to always choose a hand built wheel given the choice. This is especially important if you intend to ride trails or take a long bikepacking trip. The reliability you will experience from a hand-built wheel simply cannot be overstated.
A hand built wheel will have correctly tensioned spokes. This may sound like a small thing, but a machine cannot account for manufacturing differences. This means that you will find any machine built wheel will be incorrectly tensioned.
An incorrectly tensioned wheel will eventually fail as the loads are uneven. When your spokes are an uneven tension your wheel will not run true. The inconsistent pressure placed on spokes under or over-tensioned will cause stressors. These stressors will then cause your spokes to snap & break.
