Abbotsford Cycles: A Repair Shop for Bicycles in Melbourne

Abbotsford Cycles is primarily a bicycle repair workshop.  We don't sell bikes, we fix them, for people who ride them.

We provide genuine repairs, honest opinions and quality and economical parts and accessories to the cycling community in Melbourne.  We fix most types of bikes for all types of cyclists.  And yes, we hand build wheels.

Our extensive range of Brooks saddles and bags has seen us awarded the coveted "Six Rivets' by Brooks of England. We are confident we have more stock than anyone else in the Southern Hemisphere, and only matched by a few up North!

About us

Abbotsford Cycles was established by Peter Moore back in the 80s in Abbotsford.  In 2002, Peter reestablished this family business in a convenient corner in Richmond, right under the train station. And in 2010 added a second workshop in Hyde St, Yarraville. (But the name stayed the same!)

This iconic bike repair shop is built on a passion for everyday cycling and good old-fashioned service.  We all actively support and participate in the cycling community in Melbourne and foster the wider family of cyclists, whatever type of bike they ride.

We don't sell bikes, we fix them

Abbotsford Cycles is one of the few Bicycle Shops in Melbourne to focus solely on servicing, repairs and renovations rather than bike sales, which means it can concentrate on quality workmanship.

It's about a traditional and genuine approach to service and repairs.  Committed to reasonable prices and speedy service times, but most importantly getting the best out of your bike for you.

The Exception

The Vivente (Gemini) World Randonneur has been one of Australia's best known and well used commuting/touring bicycles since the eighties. Simon's is from the early nineties and he uses it every day, and Peter has had the new model for eighteen months.

After going through various changes over the last ten years, it has gone back to its roots as a steel touring/commuting bicycle - our sort of bike! So we have decided to make it the exception to our rule that we don't sell bikes. See its page on this site, or www.viventebikes.com for more information.

It is not everyone's cup of tea or price range, so we don't think it will affect our primary focus as a repair shop.

The people behind the bikes

With a combined experience of over 100 years, all our mechanics are fully qualified or currently completing a recognised training course.  They all bring something a bit different as a speciality, with interests in family, racing, commuting, touring, Audax, single speed and now even MTB downhilling.

Peter Moore

The founder of Abbotsford Cycles, Peter Moore has been cycling as his primary transport for over 40 years, and has finished the 1200km Audax Paris-Brest-Paris Randonnee six times.

Peter initially worked for local government and was involved in the first ever bicycle plan in Richmond before opening his own bike shop.  He is particularly passionate about developing skills, training opportunities and career paths for bicycle mechanics in Melbourne, having previously delivered training courses himself.  He is currently the President of Retail Cycle Traders Australia.
